Do you remember "Fury"? Well, if you don't let me refresh your memory with this pillow and quilt. The entire children's book has been printed in blocks and covers the top of a twin bed, with generous overhang. Sis Boom, Denise Schmidt, Moda and vintage fabrics were used, among other odd remnants I've collected with time. The pillow has some black chenille trim and ric rac. The quilt is on it's way to The Little Red Quilt House in Bridgeport, CT tomorrow morning, where I will complete it on their amazing Gamill sewing machine. I'm lucky enough to have access to the shop, but anyone can send any quilt- in ANY condition and Mark and Janice Roy will, back, bat, quilt and bind it for you! They are truly amazing, not to mention two of the finest most generous folk I know. They have a great crew, (Kelly, Janice, Lana, and Betsey to name a few). They have done many "celebrity quilts", can't say who or they'd have to kill me! They have been quilting "Kid Protectors", an Oprah award winning product that went into the Red Carpet goody bags at the Emmy Awards this year. Check out their site and services... I may regret sharing this secret with ya'll... nah! I take pics of the "Fury" quilt before and after later this week. Check back soon!

A winning combination! This pillow gets a blue ribbon all by its lonesome. Sis Boom fabrics frame an old Thoroughbred breeding show program from the 1920's printed on muslin, and is adorned with a beautiful vintage 1st place show ribbon with lovely black and white photo in the rosette. Of course the front and back, ( again, Sis Boom Bell Bottoms collection), of this pillow would look great anywhere, but it looks so complete with the throw... that fabric is from Waverly, I think?

Happy Birthday, Mom. 83 years young, beautiful skin, great sense of humor, fab cook, and known globally for her strong drinks- I kid you not! I love you so much and thank you for everything. All that is good in me, came from you. And you always looked so glamorous with just lipstick and some powder! I baked a cake a while ago and will make one for you, too, if you want. It's a yellow cake, apricot filling, and marzipan fondant- complete with Cheshire Cat and edible mice! Perhaps just one slice???

Kentucky , here we come! I'll be focusing on the Triple Crown for the next few weeks, so don't be surprised to see wreaths of roses and sunflowers, floppy hats adorned with flowers, and a few recipes including Bourbon. In the meantime, here is a luxurious be-quilted and be-fringed throw with an amazing toile pattern. The other side has a beige and white pinstripe. The fringe makes it.... expensive!

What a wonderful Easter we had. Unfortunately I was too busy preparing to take any pics of my beautiful new grand- nephew, James Declan Geaney, a.k.a. "the Lad", or of any of the main meal. Luckily, the birthday cake for my beautiful daughter, Genevieve (20 on April 7th), made the blog. E-mail me for the recipe, which is super simple and decadent. All ingredients go into the Cuisinart. Bake it. Slather with Dulce de Leche and then drown in a dark chocolate ganache. Ouch.

What we do on the farm....

Here at Dark Horse Farm I strive for a full and creative lifestyle and productive days filled with people, my pets and activities that I love and inspire me. The love and support of my amazingly talented husband, fashion photographer Tim Geaney, and my friends is not lost on me. But I have also found that it is when I am busy doing my thing, whether it be mucking stalls, sewing saddle pads, quilting, cooking, riding or walking my dog, that I am able to be the best wife/mother/friend that I can be.
The blog will be my conduit to those who are of like mind and interests and I hope to inspire them to do what makes them happy and fulfilled.
